Module 3, Subject: Blogs

My previous understanding of blogs was limited to the idea of a personal on-line editorial newspaper — an idea I got from new media references to blogs.  I’ve always figured that blogs were the release valve for people with a lot of pent-up feelings on issues.  I can see that a blog can be much more expansive and flexible.  Only thing is, I’m wondering if the concept of a blog as a ‘sharing space’ is redundant to some other virtual space.  I don’t know the answer, but am motivated by this module to investigate the possibilities of some new blogs.

There are a lot of possibilities for the use of a blog for personal interraction with family, special academic interests (like philosophy, music education, music creativity), but fewer for the class, because music education does not maintain a typical classroom environment.  There are possibilities for student idea exchange with others who might be interested in composition and the use of music software, once we have workstations to support that effort.  It might be helpful to have a common-space blog for the San Luis Valley Music Educators’ Association, so that we can easily communicate as a complete group.

The family I grew up in was a dictionary definition of dysfunctional, and a place for us to commuicate could be a real relationship helper.
